$500 million construction package aimed at stimulating job growth has cleared the state senate
The "Invest in Hawaii Act of 2012" would fund numerous capital improvement projects across the state. The bill now goes before the house and if cleared, the funding would be available for schools, health centers and other state-owned properties.

Details expected today about the Obama administration's proposal to lower corporate tax rate
A senior administration official says the president's proposal is to cut the rate from 35 percent to 28 percent. It also seeks a deeper rate cut to 25 percent for manufacturers. An administrator also states it would eliminate some subsidies and loopholes.

American journalist reported dead in Syria
She is identified as Marie Colvin and was working for Britain's Sunday Times. She was killed in heavy shelling in the city of Homs. A French journalist was also reported killed. Syria's military has redoubled its attacks on Homs in recent days.

Fire at Ala Moana Hotel early Wednesday morning
The fire was reported just after 1:30 Wednesday morning. There were reports that it may have been a trash fire in the parking lot. Extra crews were sent just as a precaution, no one was injured and no evacuation was ordered. Honolulu Fire Department are still investigating the cause.

Man hospitalized after hit-and-run incident in Chinatown

Boat aground off Lahaina catches fire
A boat that ran aground off Lahaina earlier this month caught fire this afternoon. Fire crews say the "Pacific Maid" salvage crew was cutting metal with torches when the insulation caught fire. There were no injuries. Fire crews say all hazardous materials had already been removed from the vessel.
