A man in his 50s is dead this morning from an apparent drowning in Laie.

Paramedics were called to BYU Hawaii at about 6:30 Friday morning.

According to officials, bystanders had pulled him out of the pool.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.
